BENIN CITY — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary in Edo State.

He defeated former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Alhaji Muhammed Hayatu‑Deen in the contest.

At the ADC secretariat in Benin City, Dr Mabel Adimkwu, Chairman and Returning Officer of the party’s Primary Election Committee in Edo State, announced that Atiku received 17,729 votes to become the victor.

According to her, Amaechi secured 10,116 votes, while Hayatu‑Deen received 1,906 votes.

The primary was held on 25 May 2026 across the state, drawing from a total of 32,263 registered voters listed on the INEC register.

She added that accreditation took place in all 192 wards of the 18 local government areas of Edo State.

“His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the Edo State presidential primaries,” she declared.

Responding to the result, Deputy State Chairman Sylvester Ewanehi praised the participants, describing the process as fair and orderly.

He urged stakeholders to view the outcome as a collective victory for the party.
