Aston Villa Express Interest in Nigerian Striker as Europa League Champions.

Danish-born Nigerian striker William Osula is on the radar of newly crowned Europa League champions Aston Villa, as he impresses at Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider.

Osula has had to wait for regular minutes under Eddie Howe, but is emerging as the manager’s first‑choice centre‑forward as the season wraps up.

He has certainly justified Howe’s confidence, scoring five goals in his last six appearances for Newcastle as several Premier League clubs monitor his availability.

Aston Villa are among those clubs, as revealed on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, but the Magpies are reluctant to let him depart this summer.

Newcastle’s transfer activity could see several high‑profile players leave St James’ Park, which is why the club is determined to retain Osula and his high potential.

Interest in Osula is not new; Eintracht Frankfurt made a loan offer with a £28.5 million option to buy that Newcastle rejected on Deadline Day last summer.

Sources told Football Insider that Osula is happy to stay in Tyneside after his recent run in the side, but Villa are keen to swoop for his services to strengthen their attacking options.

NFF Contacted Osula Over Possible Invitation To Super Eagles

It was reported in April that Osula was contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for a potential invitation to the Super Eagles.

According to Danish journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, the NFF has reached out to the player through sources close to him.

“William Osula, who as recently as March was in Brian Riemer’s national team squad for the fateful World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic, is in the situation where he has to choose between Denmark or Nigeria,” Abolhosseini wrote via Danish outlet Tipsbladet.

“Tipsbladet can reveal that the Premier League striker, who has a transfer market value of €15 m, has been contacted through his backroom staff by the Nigerian Football Association, who want to steal him away from Denmark.”

In November 2025 Osula was called up to the Danish national team for the 2026 World Cup qualification matches against Scotland and Belarus, but an injury forced him to withdraw.

He has only featured for the Danish U‑19 and U‑21 youth teams.
