Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has spoken about his admiration for Samuel Chukwueze, citing the winger’s jovial attitude while in the national team, according to Afrik‑Foot.

Okonkwo recently switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria after months of speculation. Born to Nigerian parents in England, the 24‑year‑old was eligible to play for either country and had represented England at youth level before deciding to join the Super Eagles.

He is expected to receive his first national team call‑up this month for the Unity Cup, a four‑nation tournament that will also feature India, Jamaica and Zimbabwe.

Before his debut, Okonkwo described his perspective on the squad from the outside and mentioned that he would likely be close to Ryan Alebiosu, with whom he shares a history. He also shared his thoughts on Chukwueze.

Over the past year, the Fulham winger has become known as the team’s joker. Alex Iwobi frequently shares behind‑the‑scenes videos, and Chukwueze is often seen cracking jokes and keeping the camp lively.

Okonkwo, though new to the system, expressed admiration for the Fulham star, saying that a character like Chukwueze’s is important in the dressing room.

“If I had to pick someone on the team, it would be Chukwueze because he seems mad and funny,” Okonkwo said.

“I don’t know him personally, but I know he will bring good vibes. I like it on the bus when you have someone who doesn’t stop talking.”

Okonkwo will not meet Chukwueze at the Unity Cup, as Eric Chelle confirmed that senior Super Eagles members will not be called up for the tournament.

Nonetheless, the Wrexham‑based goalkeeper hopes to break into the main squad soon and play alongside his new teammates.
