Arsenal are preparing to sign Mikel Arteta to a new contract that would make him one of the highest‑paid managers in world football, according to Mail Sport.

Arteta has guided the Gunners to their first league title in 22 years this season.

The announcement came on Tuesday night, after Manchester City failed to defeat Bournemouth.

Arteta’s existing contract was set to expire next summer, but negotiations to extend it are well advanced. A new agreement would bring a substantial pay increase.

Diego Simeone is believed to be the highest‑paid manager globally, earning £26 million a year with Atlético Madrid. Arteta is tipped to approach that figure.

He currently receives about £10 million per year, plus £5 million for qualifying for the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola earns roughly £20 million a year at Manchester City. When Arteta departs City this summer, he will become the longest‑serving Premier League manager.
