Arsenal received a significant morale boost when Mikel Merino stepped onto the pitch, a move that could signal a return from the long‑running foot injury that has sidelined him since January, the Standard reports.

Merino was welcomed with a warm reception; teammates formed a tunnel for him to run through and patted him on the back as he returned to the field.

Max Dowman was absent from training because the 16‑year‑old is currently in exam season.

Jurrien Timber, another player missing the first‑team sessions, is still recovering from a groin problem.

The Dutchman has been out since mid‑March with an ankle injury and now a groin issue, causing him to miss the last 12 matches of Arsenal’s title run‑in.

Arteta has faced a crisis at right‑back in recent weeks, as both of his preferred options, Timber and Ben White, are on the treatment table.

White suffered a season‑ending MCL injury in the win over West Ham earlier this month, ruling him out of the Champions League final.

With White out, Cristhian Mosquera has stepped up to cover the absence of both Timber and White.
