Arsenal are interested in re-signing Dinos Mavropanos after the Greece international was relegated with West Ham.

Mavropanos, 28, is wanted by several clubs and could be sold as part of a fire sale at the London Stadium.

The defender is no stranger to the Gunners, who bought him from Greek club PAS Giannina for £1.8million in January 2018, becoming one of Arsene Wenger’s final signings.

In his first two years at the Emirates, Mavropanos made just seven first-team appearances, and he was loaned out to German side Nurnberg in search of regular game time.

Stuttgart then took him on loan for the next two seasons before the Bundesliga outfit signed him permanently in a deal worth up to £5m in the summer of 2023. But a year later he was back in the Premier League, as West Ham shelled out £21m for his services.

Now, Sky Sports (via Mirror) report that Arsenal are weighing up a move to re-sign Mavropanos. The Gunners have admired the 28-year-old’s progress since he left the Emirates.

It should be noted that Arsenal have an abundance of right-footed centre-backs, namely William Saliba, Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White. However, White has been tipped to leave this summer after falling down the pecking order.

Mavropanos
Arsenal would have to fend off interest from Europe in order to bring Mavropanos back. Although West Ham were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season, he won the club’s Player of the Year award after an impressive individual campaign.

Mavropanos scored three goals during the run-in to give Nuno Espirito Santo’s men an increased chance of survival. But West Ham couldn’t get over the line and will play in the second tier next term for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

One of those goals was against Manchester City, which in turn boosted Arsenal’s title chances before they finally got their hands on the Premier League trophy in May. Speaking about Mavropanos after the goal, Arteta described him as a ‘very, very good character’.
