Arrested Nigerien in Bauchi on Alleged Ram Theft Charges

The Bauchi State Police Command has detained 58‑year‑old Nigerien national Sayyadi Abubakar on suspicion of stealing rams in the Bauchi metropolis.

Abubakar, who hails from Tahoua Town in Maradi State, Niger Republic, was taken into custody on 19 May 2026 after police officers seized two vehicles on Gubi Road in Bauchi.

The intercepted vehicles were a white Hummer bus bearing the registration Delta WW‑882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry with the plate Bauchi NNG‑293‑AA, both allegedly used to transport the stolen animals.

Investigators say Abubakar conspired with Alaji Ibrahim and four other accomplices, who remain at large, to pilfer the rams from an area opposite A.A. Kunya Filling Station on Murtala Mohammed Way in Bauchi.

The command added that the alleged syndicate changes vehicle number plates to those of other states during operations in different locations to avoid detection.

Police are continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The case is still under investigation, and all involved parties will face prosecution once inquiries conclude.

State Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu reiterated the command’s resolve to combat criminal activity across the state.

He urged residents to keep supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid crime‑fighting operations.
