Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD troops rescued a woman and four children during an ambush against suspected terrorists in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The details were shared by counter‑insurgency and security specialist Zagazola Makama, who posted the information on X.
Makama said the operation took place at approximately 6:45 a.m. on 10 May, carried out by soldiers from the Combat Service and Infantry Brigade (CSIB), 16th Division, stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Audu Fari.
According to the expert, intelligence indicated that terrorists were moving from the Jadua area toward the Kainji Lake National Park (KLNP) corridor, prompting troops to set an ambush at Bakpa Village.
“The troops engaged the terrorists as they attempted to infiltrate the area,” Makama wrote.
“When the militants saw the soldiers, they abandoned their families and fled into the forest to avoid capture,” he added.
Following the confrontation, the forces rescued one adult female and four children who had been left behind by the fleeing suspects.
Makama also reported that investigators recovered three motorcycles and a mobile phone, items believed to belong to the terrorists.
“The rescued individuals are receiving appropriate care, while efforts continue to locate the escaped militants and restrict their movement in the region,” he said.
He emphasized that the ambush formed part of ongoing clearance and interception missions aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and preventing infiltration around Kainji Lake National Park and nearby communities.
