Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 32‑year‑old security guard, Abraham Anekaly, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 16‑year‑old girl in the Abule‑Ijoko area of Ifo Local Government.

The suspect allegedly approached the victim while she was returning home, threatened her with a single‑barrel, locally made firearm, and forcibly took her to his residence where he raped her.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, said the incident occurred on Tuesday night and that the arrest followed a swift, intelligence‑driven response by detectives from the Agbado Division.

Babaseyi added that the firearm used to threaten the victim was recovered at the scene.

The statement read: “The incident was reported at Agbado Division in the early hours of June 10, 2026, by a family member of the victim, who alleged that on the night of June 9, 2026, the teenage girl was on her way home when she was accosted by the suspect. The suspect, armed with a locally made single‑barrel gun, allegedly threatened her before forcibly taking her to his residence at Abule‑Ijoko. Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives of Agbado Division immediately launched a coordinated response. The suspect was promptly tracked, arrested, and the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the crime was recovered.”

Babaseyi said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had unlawful sexual contact with the minor without her consent and had also attempted to seize her belongings.

The victim was given a medical form and taken to a hospital for examination and treatment. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation. The suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation and subsequent prosecution.

State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s zero‑tolerance policy toward sexual and gender‑based violence, particularly against minors. He urged parents, guardians, and the public to stay vigilant and report any abuse, violence, or suspicious activity to the nearest police station, assuring that all reports will be handled with urgency and professionalism.
