Armed men suspected to be political thugs attacked Ogundipe Olukayode, the spokesperson for the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Monday. Olukayode, also known as Omojomolo, had contested and was said to have won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Lagos State House of Assembly primaries.
The assault occurred at about 12:10 p.m. at Afariogun Junction, along the Airport Road service lane in Lagos. Witnesses reported that roughly four attackers arrived on two motorcycles and targeted the vehicle carrying the APC candidate. The vehicle was badly damaged, with its windscreen and side windows shattered.
Olukayode was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. A statement from his media office confirmed the incident, noting: “Yes, he was attacked and is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.”
Kayode Tinubu, Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Oshodi‑Isolo Local Council, who reportedly helped move Olukayode to the hospital, condemned the attack. He described it as unfortunate and a threat to peace and stability in the area, and warned against any attempt to return Oshodi to a period of unrest after years of relative calm.
Police officers from the Nigeria Police Force station in Makinde, Mafoluku‑Oshodi, visited the scene to assess the situation. They have launched an investigation and pledged to track down those responsible for the attack.
