Gunmen believed to be kidnappers abducted a businessman in Irawo, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, an attack that also wounded a 10‑year‑old girl.
The incident occurred on Monday after the victim was reportedly followed from Kraal Market, Ago‑Are, to his filling station and then to his home, where he was seized at gunpoint and taken to an unknown location.
During the assault, the girl sustained gunshot injuries; she was taken to a hospital where pellets were removed.
State Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed that the incident was reported at the Tede Division at about 10:20 p.m. on 11 May 2026.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye was allegedly trailed from Kraal Market, Ago‑Are, to his filling station at Irawo and subsequently to his residence at Irawo, where he was abducted at gunpoint by three armed men to a yet‑to‑be‑identified destination.”
Ayanlade added, “During the incident, Modinat Aleshinloye, female, aged 10 years, sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention and extraction of pellets.”
He noted that police detectives recovered three spent shells of ammunition, which are undergoing ballistic examination, and three face caps for forensic analysis. Tactical and intelligence‑driven operations are ongoing to rescue the victim unharmed and to apprehend the perpetrators.
The latest incident follows a previous abduction in which a 60‑year‑old trader was seized in the Monatan area of Lagelu Local Government Area by four masked armed men while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road.
