Alvaro Arbeloa has strongly supported Florentino Perez’s assertion that Real Madrid were “robbed” of several La Liga titles, a claim that emerges amid the ongoing controversy over the Negreira case and alleged payments to former refereeing officials.

The former Real Madrid defender echoed the club president’s view, stating that supporters fully share the belief that Madrid have been treated unfairly for an extended period.

Arbeloa’s remarks come as Barcelona continue to deny any wrongdoing and have previously indicated they may consider legal action against Pérez over the allegations.

Strong defense of club position

Arbeloa said any Madrid supporter would back the club’s leadership in its interpretation of recent events in Spanish football.

“Any Real Madrid fan who listened to the president yesterday would agree that he defends the interests of the club’s members,” he said.

When pressed about Pérez’s claim that Madrid were denied up to seven league titles, Arbeloa suggested that deeper, still‑uncovered issues exist within the sport.

“Of course. We all know what’s happened over the last 20 years. Surely there are things we don’t know,” he added.

He emphasized that Madrid’s position is aimed at protecting fairness in competition rather than creating conflict with other clubs.

Focus on standards and results

Addressing criticism of the club’s recent performances, Arbeloa acknowledged that Real Madrid have gone two seasons without a major trophy but rejected the notion of an institutional decline.

“The double standard has always been there,” he said. “We haven’t gone 50 years without winning anything.”

He highlighted the club’s long‑term competitiveness, pointing to its European successes and financial stability despite recent setbacks.

“Real Madrid has been doing many things right for a long time, it’s financially sound, well‑managed, with great players,” Arbeloa said.

He added that the club will conduct a summer review to strengthen the squad ahead of the next campaign.

Pressure builds ahead of Oviedo clash

Real Oviedo will visit the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium next as Real Madrid continue their domestic campaign under growing scrutiny from supporters and the media.

Despite rising tension around boardroom politics and on‑field results, Arbeloa insisted confidence remains within the squad that the club will return to winning major trophies.

He concluded that elite football naturally involves cycles of success and failure, but maintained that Madrid are well‑positioned to recover quickly.
