Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa urged French forward Kylian Mbappé on Wednesday to demonstrate “his commitment” to the club during the final three fixtures of the campaign.
In recent weeks, Mbappé has drawn criticism from Madrid supporters, partly because he travelled to Sardinia for a holiday while recovering from a thigh injury.
The striker missed the El Clásico loss to Barcelona on Sunday, a result that secured the Catalan side’s second consecutive La Liga title and left Los Blancos without any silverware for the season.
“If he’s there, can finish the training session and is available, he will certainly get some minutes… and he will have the chance in these three games to keep showing the commitment he has to the club,” Arbeloa told reporters.
The Spanish coach added that he hopes the league’s top scorer can return to the pitch, continue “scoring goals, showing, as I’ve said, the commitment he has to Real Madrid and that, as a coach but above all as a Madridista, is what I’d like to see.”
Arbeloa affirmed that he believes France captain Mbappé has given 100 percent for the team ahead of Thursday’s La Liga match against relegated Real Oviedo.
Mbappé is expected to face whistles from Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“All my players (have), I couldn’t think otherwise, I couldn’t believe that a Real Madrid player doesn’t give absolutely everything he has for the club, because then he wouldn’t know where he is,” Arbeloa said.
