Arbeloa: I’d Be Delighted if Mourinho Replaced Me

Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa has publicly endorsed José Mourinho as his successor at the club.

Arbeloa took charge in January 2026 after Xabi Alonso departed, but a trophy‑less spell has led to mounting pressure and a possible return to an academy role.

Reports say President Florentino Pérez prefers Mourinho to restore order at the Bernabéu.

Speaking to reporters, Arbeloa expressed support for Mourinho amid intense speculation, calling him “the number one.”

“For me, as a former (Madrid) player and as a Madridista, Jose Mourinho is number one. He’s one of ours,” Arbeloa told reporters.

“If he comes back next year, I’ll be very happy to see him back home.”
