The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Dawakin Kudu Federal Constituency by‑election in Kano State, as announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano.
Professor Sani declared the results at the collation centre, noting that the election was contested by several parties and held across the constituency’s polling units.
Official tallies show Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC received 35,356 votes. He defeated Lawal Garba Haruna of the African People’s Movement (APM), who garnered 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who obtained 98 votes.
In his statement, the Returning Officer wrote: “I hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2026 Dawakin Kudu Federal Constituency by‑election held on 20th June 2026. The election was contested. The candidates received the following votes: Rabiu Shehu Aibu of APC scored 35,356 votes; Lawal Garba Haruna of APM scored 268 votes; and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of LP scored 98 votes.”
He added: “Rabiu Shehu Aibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The outcome confirms a decisive victory for the APC candidate, who maintained a substantial margin over the opposition throughout the election.
Election officials described the process as orderly, and final collation and certification were completed at the constituency level in line with electoral guidelines.
