Former Benue State Governor and current Senator Gabriel Suswam returned to the political arena on Monday after winning the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Benue North East Senatorial District.

Suswam, who represented the district in the 9th Senate, secured a decisive victory with 131,083 votes, far surpassing incumbent Senator Emmanuel Udende, who received only 1,374 votes.

The outcome represented one of the most significant upsets in Benue’s APC primaries, as the former governor reclaimed dominance in Zone A.

In Benue North West Senatorial District, Benjamin Aber, the husband of the Benue State Secretary to the Government, also won the APC primary.

Aber polled 93,412 votes, defeating his nearest rival Dave Awunah, who garnered 21,731 votes, while incumbent Senator Titus Zam finished third with 2,763 votes.

In Benue South Senatorial District, former House of Representatives member Francis Agbo emerged victorious in the APC primary, receiving 58,760 votes.

Agbo defeated Joseph Ojobo, who scored 6,782 votes, and former PRODA Governing Board Chairman Daniel Onjeh, who had withdrawn from the contest but still received 4,570 votes.

After receiving the results from electoral officers, Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, Chairman of the APC National Assembly Election Committee for Benue State, confirmed the outcomes and urged party members to maintain peace and unity.

He added, “There is an Appeal Committee with a specific assignment. All aggrieved persons should file their appeal within 48 hours after the declaration.”

Mahuta further said, “The election was a family affair and should be rancour‑free. It should strengthen us as a party because no one won and no one lost; we are all one.”

State Chairman Benjamin Omale thanked the committee members for their presence in the state and for conducting a peaceful primary election.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Hyacinth Alia, and the National Chairman of the APC for ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Omale praised all aspirants and winners, emphasizing that the exercise produced no victor or vanquished, describing it as “a united family affair.”
