Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, the sole APC candidate for the Rivers State governorship, praised fellow aspirants who withdrew from the party’s race, calling their decision a sign of unity and dedication to the party’s success.

Speaking on Thursday at the APC governorship primary in his home Ward 4 of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Chinda described the exercise as a transparent, democratic process designed to produce a leader who can serve the interests of the Rivers people.

He thanked party leaders for selecting him as the APC flag‑bearer for the 2027 governorship election.

Chinda promised that, if elected, he would govern with reverence for God, uphold the rule of law, and ensure accountability in governance.

The former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives added that he believes Rivers State will once again become peaceful, stable, and progressive.

He also commended party members for maintaining peace and order throughout the primary.

Chinda arrived at his polling unit at about 12:23 p.m., greeted by a large crowd of supporters and party faithful.

The voting centre had a carnival‑like atmosphere, with live bands and traditional cultural groups entertaining attendees, and a noticeable presence of members from the Northern community.

He was accompanied by Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, now the APC candidate for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, along with other APC stakeholders and party members from Abuja.

Security forces were also heavily present in his ward.
