APC Reschedules Zamfara National Assembly Primaries

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved the dates for its National Assembly primary elections in Zamfara State to Monday, 18 May 2026. The change comes as the party prepares for a critical stage of its internal electoral process ahead of the next legislative cycle.

According to the party, the primaries will take place at designated ward centres across Zamfara State and will be overseen by a committee appointed by the national leadership of the APC.

The decision was announced in an official notice addressed to journalists by Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Zamfara State.

Aliyu urged aspirants, delegates and supporters to rely only on official communications from the committee for accurate information about the exercise. He warned against the spread of unauthorised reports that could create confusion within the party.

He stated that any information circulating outside the committee’s approved channels should be regarded as unauthorised, null and void.

Aliyu also called on all participants to act peacefully and to follow the guidelines governing the primaries, stressing the importance of discipline and order throughout the process.

He said the APC remains committed to conducting a transparent, free, fair and credible primary election in Zamfara, in line with the party’s democratic principles and internal electoral regulations.

Political observers consider the Zamfara primaries to be significant for the APC’s broader political strategy in the North‑West, a region deemed strategic to the party’s national electoral strength.

Aliyu advised party members and interested stakeholders to direct all inquiries and requests for clarification through the committee’s official communication channels to avoid misinformation.

The committee overseeing the exercise is chaired by Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu and includes Yusuf Dingyadi, Bala Usman Horse, Samuel Shwarta, Barrister Joshua Wapdil, Usaini Gotu, with Hycenth Henlong Tuamyil serving as secretary.
