APC Primaries: Kalu, Onyejeocha, and Others Secure Representative Nominations in Abia

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, a former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, have both won the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominations for the 2027 House of Representatives elections in Abia State.

The pair were elected unopposed in the APC primary elections that were held in each of the state’s eight federal constituencies.

Kalu was selected as the party’s candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, while Onyejeocha received the ticket for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.

Chairman of the Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Barrister Erasmus Cishak, announced the results on Saturday at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia. He described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.

According to Cishak, the primaries saw active participation from party members and other stakeholders throughout the state.

Other candidates who emerged from the primaries include Hon. Chris Nkwonta for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency and Hon. Uzor Azubuike for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji, was also chosen as the APC candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

Hon. Uzoma Theodore Uka secured the ticket for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency, while Hon. Udo Alozie was selected for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency.

Hon. Ikenna Nicholas clinched the APC nomination for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Barrister Cishak praised party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise, noting that the committee strictly adhered to principles of fairness, transparency and internal democracy throughout the primaries.

The results are expected to strengthen the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections in Abia State.
