Some candidates contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat have signalled that they may step aside in favour of a female aspirant, Sarah Ivie Adidi.
The APC House of Representatives primary election was originally scheduled for Friday, 15 May, but was postponed to Saturday, 16 May.
The postponement was announced in a statement released on Friday by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka.
Prior to the primaries, the APC had adopted a consensus‑based approach, whereby candidates for various elective positions are expected to emerge through mutual agreement.
Sources within the FCT chapter of the party say that some aspirants have expressed a willingness to step down for Adidi either before or during the primaries. They cite her broad acceptability, grassroots ties and growing momentum within the constituency as the rationale for the proposed move.
Meanwhile, Adidi concluded a ward‑to‑ward consultation tour across the constituency on Thursday, covering all 22 wards of the AMAC and Bwari area councils.
The tour involved meetings with ward executives, party stakeholders, women’s groups, youth leaders, traditional representatives and community members, during which the aspirant outlined her vision for inclusive, people‑focused representation.
After the tour, Adidi thanked everyone for the warm reception and encouragement she received in each ward. Her candidacy has drawn particular support from women and young people in the constituency.
“This journey has strengthened my belief that our people are ready for responsive, accessible, and compassionate representation. I am deeply humbled by the love, support, and acceptance shown to me in every ward across AMAC and Bwari,” she said.
On Friday, it was reported that consultations and meetings were underway among aspirants to determine whether a consensus candidate could be presented ahead of the primaries.
It is worth noting that the chairmen of the six geo‑political zones of the APC in the FCT had endorsed Adidi to represent the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for the 2027 general elections.
They reached this decision at a high‑level stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, where party leaders, grassroots mobilisers and key stakeholders discussed the constituency’s political future and the need for effective representation.
