APC picks Anyim, Masari to chair 2026 presidential primary committees

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Senate President Pius Anyim as chairman of a seven‑member Presidential Primary Election Committee.

The committee will also include Senators Ken Nnamani and Victor Udo Udoma, H.E. Otunba Grace Titi Laoye‑Ponle, Rev. Jolly Nyame, and Idris Wada, with Mr. Sanusi Musa serving as Secretary.

The party announced the decision in a notice signed by National Secretary Ajibola Basiru.

A separate Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee has been formed, chaired by Hon. Aminu Masari. Mr. Samuel Piwuna will act as Secretary and Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh will be a member.

Thirty‑seven Coordinators and Collation Officers have been deployed across the states and the Federal Capital Territory. Among the coordinators are prominent party figures such as Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo State), Alh. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State), Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum (Borno State), Senator Bassey Otu (Cross River State), Babajide Olusola Sanwo‑Olu (Lagos State), Senator Monday Okpebholo (Edo State), Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna State), Sir Siminalaji Fubara (Rivers State), Hon. Yakubu Dogara (Bauchi State), Hon. Benjamin Kalu (Abia State), and Senator Phillip Aduda (FCT), among others.

The presidential primaries will take place on Saturday, with voting conducted simultaneously across all 8,809 wards in the country as the party seeks to select its 2027 presidential candidate.

Under the new procedure, every registered APC member in each ward will be able to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant, moving away from the delegate‑based system that previously concentrated nomination power in the hands of a few officials and delegates.

Results from each ward will be collated at the local government level by officers appointed jointly by the State Coordinator and the National Working Committee (NWC). State Coordinators and Collation Officers will then compile the results from all local governments in their states and submit them to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on the same day.
