The All Progressives Congress (APC) retained the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly after its candidate, Rabiu Garba Aiki, won the Saturday bye‑election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Aiki as the winner after the collation at the Zuru collation centre was completed.

The Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, reported that the APC candidate received 4,871 votes, defeating Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who garnered 168 votes.

Danladi noted that 109,385 voters were registered in the constituency, 5,156 of whom were accredited to vote. He added that 5,055 valid votes were counted, and 95 ballots were declared invalid.

The bye‑election was conducted to fill the vacancy left by the death of Mohammed Usman Zuru, former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly and representative of the Zuru State Constituency.

Although the election was peaceful, voter turnout was low in many polling units, and the APC maintained a comfortable lead from the early stages of collation.

Aiki’s win guarantees that the ruling party continues to hold the Zuru State Constituency seat in the state legislature.
