The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that its presidential primary for the 2027 elections will proceed on the originally scheduled date of May 23, 2026, despite circulating rumors of a postponement.
Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, issued a statement on Wednesday clarifying that social media and other communication platforms had spread false information regarding a change to the timetable.
“This clarification has become necessary following the circulation of false and misleading reports on social media and other communication platforms suggesting otherwise,” the statement read.
According to the revised timetable, the sale of nomination forms began on Saturday, April 25, and continued until Saturday, May 2, 2026. Candidates were required to submit completed forms and supporting documents no later than Monday, May 4.
Screenings for candidates seeking seats in the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorships took place from Wednesday, May 6 to Friday, May 8. Presidential aspirants were screened by a panel on Saturday, May 9. Results for all categories were released on Monday, May 11, and appeals were heard on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12 and 13.
Primary elections will follow this sequence: House of Representatives on Friday, May 15; Senate on Monday, May 18; State House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 20; Governorship on Thursday, May 21; and the Presidential primary on Saturday, May 23. Post‑primary appeal committees will convene in the days immediately after each election.
The APC’s National Working Committee has also adopted a dual‑mode primary system—direct and consensus—as outlined in the Electoral Act, subject to a significant condition.
