The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has confirmed Governor Umar Namadi as its consensus candidate for the 2027 general election.
The affirmation took place on Thursday at Dutse Stadium in Dutse, the state capital.
Isa Sadik, chairman of the state governorship primary election committee, said the process was carried out in the presence of security agencies and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that the Electoral Act allows candidates to emerge either through consensus or by holding contested primary elections.
Delegates from all 287 political wards in the state unanimously endorsed Governor Namadi as the APC’s sole governorship candidate for 2027.
“Based on the powers bestowed on me as chairman of the governorship election committee, and in accordance with Sections 84 and 86 of the Electoral Act as well as the APC constitution, I hereby affirm and declare Governor Umar Namadi as the sole candidate of the APC for the 2027 governorship election,” he said.
Sadik also presented the governor with the party’s certificate of return, confirming him as the duly elected APC governorship candidate.
APC state chairman Ahmad Muhammad noted that primary elections were held in only three federal constituencies, while candidates in the remaining eight constituencies emerged through consensus arrangements.
He added that all three senatorial candidates and the 30 State House of Assembly candidates also emerged through consensus.
Muhammad praised party members and stakeholders for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state.
He urged members to stay united and work toward securing victory for the APC at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Umar Namadi thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity to seek a second term in office.
The governor also expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders and members for allowing him to contest unopposed and assured them of his continued commitment to executing more development projects.
He promised that he would honor the confidence placed in him and continue working tirelessly for the success of the APC across the state and the country.
