Winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections have voiced concerns over the delay in receiving their Certificates of Return, urging the party to provide clear and timely guidance on post‑primary procedures before the 2027 general elections.
Candidates from several states and for various elective positions noted that the postponement is sowing uncertainty among party members, even though the primaries have concluded and the results have been announced by the designated election committees.
Some aspirants, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the situation has caused unease within the party, as different interpretations of the APC’s guidelines on ratifying primary outcomes have emerged.
One winner explained that while the primaries were conducted and the results declared by the relevant committees, the lack of Certificates of Return has raised questions among stakeholders.
“We took part in the primaries and winners emerged through the processes conducted by the party committees. However, many of us are still awaiting our Certificates of Return, and we believe clarity is needed to avoid unnecessary tension,” the aspirant said.
Another candidate observed that the delay has sparked discussions within the party about the need for clearer communication regarding post‑primary procedures, emphasizing that transparency is essential for strengthening internal democracy.
Some aspirants also compared the current situation with earlier presentations of Certificates of Return, such as that of President Bola Tinubu following the presidential primary, urging consistency in how all elected candidates are handled.
They called on the party leadership to ensure that due process is followed and that all successful aspirants are formally recognised in accordance with established guidelines.
