APC Approves 81 Benue House of Representatives Candidates Ahead of Key Primaries

The APC screening committee in Benue State cleared 81 candidates who wish to run for the House of Representatives, ahead of the Saturday congresses and primaries.

The list, compiled in Makurdi, indicates that every incumbent House member from Benue passed the screening and will take part in the primaries.

Sources say the screening followed APC's established guidelines for selecting candidates ahead of the upcoming elections.

An anonymous party official reported that the committee deemed the aspirants qualified and suitable for the primaries, noting that the process was conducted peacefully and transparently.

The source added that all incumbent lawmakers from Benue, as well as new aspirants, were cleared to represent the party in their constituencies.

However, uncertainty remained about the primaries because election materials had not yet reached several wards when the report was filed.

Observers in parts of Makurdi LGA noted that party members worried the delay could jeopardise the smooth running of the congresses.

Reports also suggested that no agreement had been reached between aspirants and party leadership before the exercise began, foreshadowing highly competitive primaries in many constituencies.

Attempts to secure a statement from Benue APC leadership about the material delay and lack of consensus arrangements were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
