Tobi Amusan defended her women’s 100m hurdles title at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships, securing Nigeria’s first gold medal of the competition.
Her compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo also performed strongly, finishing in third place after a powerful start to the race.
Amusan is now preparing for the Diamond League meeting in China scheduled for Saturday.

Team Nigeria began its campaign with two medals in the women’s discus event.
Divine Oladipo, in her debut international appearance for Nigeria, earned silver.
Obiageri Amaechi also made the podium, taking bronze and completing a successful outing for Nigeria in the event.
