Amusan wins Nigeria’s first gold at Senior Athletic Championships

Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan captured Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday.

She won the women’s 100‑meter hurdles on Day 2, adding to her extensive medal haul at continental competitions.

Her teammate Adaobi Tabugbo earned bronze in the same event, helping Nigeria maintain a strong performance from the opening day of the championships.

The victory marked Amusan’s third gold at the African Championships and was presented by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.

During a press briefing, Amusan encouraged young athletes not to let fear impede their ambitions.

“Don’t let anyone talk fear into your dreams. I remember when I started hurdling, I heard a lot of ‘Oh, nobody is going to do well as a hurdler from Africa. And guess who is the World Record holder: me,’” Tobi said.
