Amotekun arrests couple over burglary of former Ondo Speaker’s home

Amotekun Corps, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, detained a couple linked to a burglary at the country residence of former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker Jumoke Akindele in Okitipupa.

During the operation, the corps seized seven stolen mobile phones and other valuables that had been taken, and prevented an attempt to smuggle them to Lagos for sale.

The suspects, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife Ayo Oguneso, 22, were captured after an intelligence‑driven operation traced the stolen items to a transporter planning to move them from Okitipupa to Lagos.

The agency also revealed that an accomplice in the transportation chain was arrested and placed in custody after the suspects confessed.

While presenting the suspects, state Amotekun Corps Commander Adetunji Adeleye announced, “I’m happy to inform you that all the stolen phones are in front of the suspects, and the two suspects are here with us,”

The suspects, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife Ayo Oguneso, 22, along with the transporter who was to move the phones from Okitipupa to Lagos, were present.

We also have the accomplice; however, because we broadened our investigation to other matters, we have also targeted others not directly involved but operating in that local government on our watch list.

We have arranged for their arrest; they will be brought to court promptly, and the phones will be returned on bond to the rightful owners.

The former Speaker confirmed that the burglary took place in the middle of the night on Sunday, noting that expensive mobile handsets and other personal items were taken.

Akindele, who reported that several windows were damaged during the incident, called for the creation of state police forces in Nigeria, citing the success of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State as a compelling reason for a constitutional amendment.

She remarked, “I have frequently heard praise for the heroic efforts of the Amotekun Corps in combating all forms of crime and insecurity in Ondo State, and to say that I am awed by their dexterity, determination, bravery, and commitment to duty would be an understatement.”

I salute Corps Commandant Mr. Adetunji, whose effective and productive leadership is evident. Investigations continue, with most perpetrators now in Amotekun custody.
