The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has detained a couple accused of burgling the country residence of former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, in Okitipupa.

The suspects, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, 22, were seized during an intelligence‑driven operation that also recovered seven high‑value mobile phones and other items allegedly taken in the burglary.

Amotekun operatives also intercepted a plan to transport the stolen goods to Lagos for sale.

According to the agency, the suspects were traced after intelligence indicated that the items were being readied for shipment via a commercial transporter from Okitipupa to Lagos.

An accomplice involved in the transport chain was arrested following confessions made by the suspects.

Parading the suspects in Akure, Amotekun’s Ondo State commander, Adetunji Adeleye, announced that all the stolen phones had been recovered.

“I’m happy to let you know that all the phones stolen are here in front of the suspects,” Adeleye said.
“The two suspects are right here with us, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, 22, including the transporter who was supposed to take the phones out of Okitipupa to Lagos. We equally have the accomplice,” he added.

Adeleye said the suspects would be charged and brought to court immediately, while the recovered phones would be returned to the former Speaker on bond.

Confirming the incident, Akindele said the burglary took place in the early hours of Sunday when the suspects allegedly broke into her home and removed expensive mobile phones and other personal belongings.

She noted that several windows in the house were damaged during the break‑in.

The former Speaker used the occasion to renew her call for the establishment of a state police force, describing Amotekun’s success as evidence supporting constitutional reforms.

“I have often been regaled with the heroic efforts of the Amotekun Corps in battling and curtailing crimes in Ondo State. To say that I am awed by their dexterity, determination, bravery and commitment to duty is an understatement,” she said.

Akindele praised the Amotekun commander and the officers involved in the operation, urging the Ondo State Government to recognize and reward their efforts.

“I salute the Corps Commandant, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, whose effective and productive leadership style is evident. Investigations are ongoing, with most of the perpetrators already in Amotekun custody. I sincerely commend these valiant officers and men to the Ondo State Government for recognition, awards and commendation,” she added.
