Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorí has emerged as a leading contender for the AC Milan managerial vacancy, according to BBC Sport.
The Portuguese coach has been without a club since his dismissal from United in January, after a turbulent 14‑month spell.
Sources close to the former Sporting CP boss have previously distanced the 41‑year‑old from a return to Benfica, the club where he spent six years as a player and made 154 appearances.
Although no agreement has been reached, Milan has been in talks with Amorí’s representatives and he is high on their shortlist to replace Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked in May after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Milan had been nine points clear of fifth place when they beat rivals Inter in March, but then won only three of their final 10 matches, earning 10 points and finishing a point behind Como, who secured the final Champions League spot on the last day.

USA coach Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner, who left Crystal Palace after their UEFA Conference League final win over Rayo Vallecano, have also been linked with the vacancy.
Another former Manchester United boss who had been linked with the Milan job is no longer in the running. Ralf Rangnick, who managed Old Trafford from 2021 to 2022 before taking charge of Austria, has extended his contract with the nation until 2028.
If Amorí were to take over, he would face his former club in pre‑season, as AC Milan are scheduled to play United in Wrocław, Poland, on 15 August, a week before the Premier League starts.
