Amnesty International has condemned a lethal gun attack on the Irigwe community of Angwan Magaji, located in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The assault, which took place late on June 16 2026, resulted in nine deaths and 11 injuries.

The organization noted that two of the deceased were children, aged five and four. It also reported that several victims were brutally killed and that three women were attacked in their homes during the nighttime raid.

Search operations are ongoing for residents who remain missing, according to Amnesty International.

Describing the incident as one of the deadliest recent attacks in Southern Kaduna, the group expressed concern over the region’s persistent insecurity. “This is perhaps one of the deadliest recent attacks in the southern part of Kaduna State, with yet another rural community shattered by an attack in the later hours of the night,” Amnesty International said.

The organization decried the continuing cycle of killings, abductions and violence in Southern Kaduna, urging authorities to take urgent steps to protect lives and ensure accountability. It added that the recurrence of attacks and the failure to bring suspected perpetrators to justice continue to pose a serious threat to residents’ right to life.
