Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has claimed that he was instrumental in bringing the late Muhammadu Buhari to the presidency. However, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, has disputed this assertion, stating that Amaechi did not even cast a ballot for Buhari in the 2015 election.
Oshiomhole shared his perspective during a Sunday interview on The Mic On Podcast, explaining that Amaechi was “overwhelmed” by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, which prevented him from voting. According to the lawmaker, Amaechi, who had served as the Director‑General of Buhari’s campaign, directed supporters in Rivers State to boycott the polls.
He said, “Amaechi lied that he made Buhari president. Amaechi was not able to vote for Buhari in 2015 because he unwisely directed the people of Rivers State to boycott the polls as he was overwhelmed by the forces of Wike. As Director‑General of the campaign, he asked his people not to vote.”
In a separate interview on Arise TV, Amaechi had claimed that he, rather than former President Tinubu, was the key figure behind Buhari’s 2015 victory.
