The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State has donated 30 patrol vehicles to security agencies in order to strengthen security operations across the state.

The vehicles were distributed to several agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Nigeria Immigration Service, and others.

During the distribution ceremony, ALGON chairman for Osun, Mr. Samuel Idowu, explained that the donation reflects ALGON’s commitment to the safety and well‑being of the state’s residents.

He noted that the ability of local government councils to provide the vehicles was made possible by the autonomy granted to the third tier of government by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“As the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the peculiar security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively,” he said.

“The provision of these patrol vehicles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria. It shows that when empowered, local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development,” Mr. Idowu added.

He further announced that 90 units of new security patrol vehicles and other equipment would be handed over to security agencies in batches before the end of May 2025. “No community can witness any development if the security of lives and property is not guaranteed,” he said.

Responding to the announcement, Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan said, “These operational vehicles will significantly enhance our capacity to dominate public spaces, engage in proactive surveillance, respond quickly to distress calls, ease patrols, increase visibility policing, and ultimately improve our overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state.”
