ALGON donates 30 operational vehicles to security agencies in Osun

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State has donated 30 patrol vehicles to security agencies to strengthen security operations across the state.

Recipients of the new patrol vehicles include the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Nigeria Immigration Service, and other security bodies.

During the distribution ceremony, ALGON chairman in Osun, Mr. Samuel Idowu, said the event underscored ALGON’s commitment to the security and welfare of the state’s residents.

He noted that the provision of the vehicles by local government councils would not have been possible without the autonomy granted to the third tier of government by the President Bola Tinubu administration.

“As the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the unique security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively,” he said.

“The provision of these patrol vehicles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria. It shows that when empowered, local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development,” he added.

“I would also like to inform our security agencies and the entire state that we have procured 90 units of these new security patrol vehicles and other security equipment, which will be handed over to our security agencies in batches before the end of this month of May 2025. No community can witness any development if the security of lives and property is not guaranteed,” he said.

Responding, Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan said, “These operational vehicles will significantly enhance our capacity to dominate public spaces, engage in proactive surveillance, respond quickly to distress calls, ease patrols, increase visibility policing, and ultimately improve our overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state.”
