Algeria shock Netherlands 1-0 in World Cup friendly

In a World Cup preparation match held in Rotterdam on Wednesday evening, Algeria defeated the Netherlands 1–0, a result that came just a week before the 2026 tournament begins in North America.

Algeria’s victory was secured by a spectacular 86th‑minute strike from Hadj Moussa, whose left‑footed curling shot found the top corner of the goal.

The Dutch team dominated much of the game, yet their efforts were thwarted by the Fennecs’ goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the son of former France legend Zinedine Zidane. Zidane, who plays for Granada in Spain’s second division, made a series of impressive saves that kept the scoreline level.

Algeria has named four goalkeepers on a provisional squad list, but only three will travel to the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.
