Faizu Alfindiki, a former chairman of the Kano Municipal Council, stated that former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso lacks the political clout to decide presidential election results in Kano State.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kano to APC social‑media influencers, Alfindiki rejected assertions that Kwankwaso could deliver a substantial vote haul in the 2027 elections.

He argued that talk of a potential Kwankwaso‑Peter Obi alliance should not alarm the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Kwankwaso cannot deliver Kano votes as is often claimed. The voting pattern in this state has consistently shown that individuals, rather than political structures, determine presidential outcomes,” he said.

Alfindiki noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly won Kano elections on the basis of personal popularity, even when Kwankwaso or his allies held power.

“In 2003, Buhari received roughly 1.6 million votes in Kano, yet Kwankwaso, who was governor then, could not deliver the state to Obasanjo,” he said.

He said the same pattern recurred in later elections.

He observed that Buhari continued to amass large vote totals in Kano irrespective of which party controlled the state government.

“Even in 2011, Buhari still dominated Kano despite a sitting governor, which illustrates the limits of Kwankwaso’s influence,” he added.

The APC chieftain also referenced the 2019 elections, noting that Buhari garnered more than 1.4 million votes in Kano, while candidates supported by Kwankwaso failed to win key legislative seats.

Alfindiki also cited the 2023 presidential election, stating that Kwankwaso’s performance in Kano did not substantiate claims of his political dominance.

“As a presidential candidate, he received fewer than one million votes in his own state, which clearly shows his political reach is limited,” he said.

He accused the former governor of overstating his past influence, especially the claim that he delivered millions of votes to Buhari in 2015.

“No one denies that Kwankwaso is relevant in Kano politics, but history does not support the notion that he controls presidential voting in the state,” Alfindiki added.

He expressed confidence that the APC remains strong
