…Company pays compensation, trains 64 youths on skills

By Emmanuel Iheaka

OWERRI – Dr Ahmed Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), announced that more than 2,000 people were affected by the demolition of property required for the reconstruction and upgrade of the Alaoji‑Onitsha 330 kV transmission line.

Abdulaziz made the statement during the official handover of grant cheques and start‑up packs to some of the affected residents in Owerri, Imo State.

Represented by Project Manager Engr. Omobola Adusoga Sabo, the Managing Director reported that 210 individuals from 32 communities received grants after a thorough assessment of the impact on each household.

He also noted that 64 youths—two from each of the 32 communities—were trained in various skills and were given start‑up packs.

According to the TCN boss, the compensation and skills‑acquisition programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to youth welfare.

“We are reconstructing and upgrading the Alaoji‑Onitsha 330 kV circuit line. All people on the right of way will be compensated,” said Abdulaziz.

“In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, all affected people were identified—210 persons across 32 communities—and we are providing them with grants to start their businesses,” he added.

“We are also training a total of 64 youths on various skills—two from each community—and they will receive start‑up packs,” the Managing Director continued.

“Over 2,000 persons were affected. The minimum compensation each person received is N1 million based on the assessment of the effect,” he stated.

The Project Consultant, Basil Uzodimma, remarked that the African Development Bank, the project’s sponsor, insisted that everyone on the right of way must be compensated.
