Ajabor Wins MTN Prestige Golf Classic, Secures Spot in 154th Open at Royal Birkdale

The MTN Nigeria has concluded its second Prestige Golf Classic tournament in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The event, held at the golf section of the Port Harcourt Club, drew participants from various golf clubs across the state and beyond, including prominent business leaders and networking enthusiasts.

Mrs. Ochade Ajabor, a member of the Rumuokwurushi Golf Club, topped the leaderboard with 43 points and was awarded a complimentary ticket to the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale in Southport, Merseyside, later this year.

The two‑day event began with a welcome cocktail on Friday, featured competitive play on Saturday morning, and concluded with a dinner for more than 100 participants and guests.

Speaking to journalists at the venue, MTN’s General Manager for Regional Operations in the South‑South, Ifeanyi Udom, explained that the tournament was organized by MTN.

She said, “At MTN, we try to connect with our customers at their passion points to ensure we support the activities that bring out the best in them. We provide platforms that enable our customers to be their best selves.”

Udom added, “The Golf Classic is one of those platforms for our high‑value customers and the golfing community, allowing them to socialize, network, and collaborate. Many important decisions are made on the golf course rather than in boardrooms.”

“We provide a space for customers to meet, interact, and even strike deals. We also showcase MTN’s products and services,” she continued.

She noted that the tournament offers customers a chance to experience special products and services tailored for them.

“We use the event to introduce high‑value customers to curated products so they can engage with and enjoy MTN’s services,” Udom said. “It’s about giving them a platform to enjoy themselves while presenting them with our 5G network, fiber services, and voice offerings.”

Udom emphasized that MTN prioritizes optimal network performance across all products, stating, “We ensure the highest quality service for our 4G, 5G, and fiber customers.”

She also mentioned that this was the second edition of the tournament and that it will continue. “Last year was great; this year is even greater. I hope each year improves further,” she noted.

In an interview with THISDAY, Mrs. Ochade Ajabor, the winner of this year’s MTN Prestige Golf Classic, described the victory as a wonderful experience. “I’m elated. It’s just a wonderful experience. I came here to relax and enjoy myself, and I was rewarded with this beautiful win. I’m very appreciative of MTN for this gesture and for the tournament. It’s been a wonderful experience all through,” she said.

Ajabor, a member of the Python Golf Club, added, “Being the overall winner means I’ll receive an all‑expenses‑paid trip to watch the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale in the UK. I’m looking forward to that trip.”

“I won with 43 points, the highest score today, beating the first runner‑up by one point. Every stroke matters. I just enjoy playing golf. I’ll keep playing; if I win, great. If not, I still gain relaxation, friendship, and enjoyment,” Ajabor concluded.
