Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has clarified that she never abandoned her senatorial bid for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), contrary to what some media outlets have reported.

In a post on her verified X account on Saturday, Yesufu asked journalists to correct headlines that implied she had withdrawn from the race.

As co‑convener of the BringBackOurGirls Movement, she said she fought for her senatorial nomination until the very end.

She added that the 2027 presidential election is the key prize in this electoral cycle.

Yesufu also stated she would back the strongest candidate in that contest, emphasizing that her focus should be there.

“To all media houses, I did not quit. I did not step down. Correct your headline. Let no media house rewrite history. Correct your headlines. Posterity is watching,” she said.

“A flawed primary was conducted and someone else was declared. I reject the narrative that I quit.”

“What I did was choose, for the greater good of the party and the nation, to accept a flawed outcome rather than tear the NDC apart when a bigger fight looms,” she added.
