The Pan‑Yoruba socio‑political group Afenifere has called on northern groups that are threatening Sunday Adeyemo—better known as Sunday Igboho—to allow his actions to help free Yorubaland from banditry and terrorism and preserve peace.
According to a statement from National Publicity Secretary Comrade Jare Ajayi, Afenifere said that Igboho is not targeting any specific ethnic group, but rather “individuals and groups who are engaged in terror acts in Yorubaland.”
After abductions along the Igboho‑Igbeti‑Kisi axis in Oke Ogun, Oyo State, the Yoruba nationalist Igboho visited his hometown, Igboho, last weekend and issued a two‑hour ultimatum to the kidnappers of a pregnant woman and two other victims, demanding their release or warning of dire consequences.
Igboho also cautioned Fulani individuals involved in illicit activities such as kidnapping, urging them to stop, and threatened to kill any indigenous person found supporting such acts.
He assured non‑indigenous residents living peacefully and harmoniously in the area that they need not fear.
Nonetheless, several northern Nigerian groups—including the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), the Coalition of Northern Groups, and the Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria—condemned the Yoruba activist for issuing the ultimatum.
