Afenifere cautions against complying with terrorists’ demands as troops tighten the siege over the Oyo kidnapping.

Afenifere, a pan‑Yoruba socio‑political organization, has warned authorities not to consider the demands of the terrorists who recently abducted students and teachers in Oyo State.

According to the Daily Post, on 15 May, a group of terrorists entered schools in the Ahoro‑Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities of Oriire Local Government Area and abducted at least 39 pupils and seven teachers.

Initial reports said the terrorists made four main demands: the release of detained terrorist commanders, payment of a ransom, delivery of two Hilux vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia‑related laws in Oyo State.

In a viral video, one of the teachers denied the Sharia‑related demand, stating that the abductors were only asking for the release of detained commanders.
