Engr. Chijioke Okwukenye, Managing Director of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), announced that AEDC and its subsidiary, Nasarawa Electricity Distribution Limited (NAEDL), will install roughly 35,000 meters across Nasarawa State.

The announcement was made in Keffi, a local government area of the state, during a stakeholder engagement hosted by NAEDL.

The event’s theme was “Powering Nasarawa together: Shared responsibilities, shared solutions.”

AEDC’s Managing Director, represented by the company’s Chief Operations Officer Blessing Ogbe, stated that the mass metering program will be offered free of charge.

He added that the meters will be deployed in specifically identified areas to eliminate arbitrary billing and improve service for utility customers.

Ogbe cautioned that energy theft must be addressed efficiently, or it could undermine the efforts of electricity generators and distributors to provide reliable power to residents.

In her remarks, NAEDL Managing Director and Chief Business Officer Mrs. Veronica Abah confirmed the collaboration with AEDC to supply 35,000 meters to customers statewide.

“Currently for us, we have a total population of 233,807 customers. Out of this population, we have a total metered customer population of 175,321. Our current gap, which we call unmetered customers, is 58,486,” she said.

Also speaking, Engr. Yakubu Loko, Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC), praised the state government for enacting the Nasarawa State Electricity Law, which authorized the formation of Nasarawa Electricity Distribution Limited.
