The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified why former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has not yet been announced as the party’s vice‑presidential candidate.
On Saturday, Abdulrasheed Shehu, a media aide for presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar, explained that the delay was due to the candidate’s current travel commitments.
This statement followed a post on X that suggested internal discord within the ADC and that Amaechi had not yet accepted the party’s offer.
In a quick reply, Atiku’s camp posted: “Atiku/Amaechi is settled. His Excellency is on a short business trip. Once he returns, Amaechi will be officially unveiled in a few days as the VP candidate. Stop posting fake news.”
The clarification came after a period of uncertainty and conflicting reports that followed the ADC’s announcement of its 2027 presidential nominee.
Early rumors about the partnership had circulated, but party officials initially refrained from confirming the pairing, which left room for speculation.
