The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Idris Gatumbwa Mamman Durkwa as its consensus candidate for the Borno South Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Senator Ali Ndume currently holds the seat and has already secured the APC nomination to run for a fifth term.
If Durkwa wins, he would succeed the long‑serving senator, who is known for his outspoken commentary on national matters.
The ADC also screened two additional senatorial hopefuls—Fugu Ibrahim for Borno North and Babagana Zanna for Borno Central.
After the screening, ADC Organising Secretary Mohammed Umar Bolori told journalists that Durkwa emerged as the party’s consensus choice.
“He was presented to reposition ADC’s unity, growth, and electoral success in southern Borno, the state and beyond,” Bolori said.
He added that three governorship aspirants and several House of Representatives hopefuls were also screened for the party primaries in areas where the consensus arrangement did not succeed.
