ADC moves to reconcile aggrieved members in Rivers

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has launched a reconciliation effort after internal disputes surfaced following its recent primary elections.

The conflict created factional divisions within the party, resulting in two separate governorship candidates emerging from the same primary process.

To address the fallout, the party inaugurated a Peace and Reconciliation Committee in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, aiming to promote unity, inclusiveness, and internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee will also work to strengthen collective support for the ADC’s electoral prospects.

During the inauguration, State Chairman Chukwudi Dimkpa explained that the committee was created to ensure that all aspirants who participated in the primaries, along with their supporters, are fully integrated into the party’s broader political structure.

Represented by State Secretary Sam Sam Etetegwung, Dimkpa said the committee’s mandate includes engaging all aspirants, addressing grievances, and fostering reconciliation among party stakeholders.

He added that the committee would create platforms for dialogue to resolve misunderstandings that arose during the primaries and to settle disputes amicably.

According to Dimkpa, the goal is to secure unity among members and their backing for the ADC’s candidates in the 2027 elections.

He also tasked the committee with developing a framework for sustained engagement and inclusiveness, emphasizing the need for a united front before the general elections.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Hon. Emma Chinda assured party leadership that the team would carry out its assignment diligently and deliver positive results.
