ADC Names Ogundipe Winner of Ogun Guber Primary Election

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Primaries Electoral Committee, Mr. Adeniyi Adams, announced yesterday that Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe received the highest number of votes in the governorship primary held in Ogun State last week.

Speaking at a news conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Adams revealed that Ogundipe secured 9,370 votes, while Jimmy Lawal and Dr. Marie Odusola received 6,812 and 2,349 votes respectively.

He explained that votes in Sagamu and Ijebu East local government areas were cancelled due to overvoting and result mutilation, and that reruns were held in Yewa South and Ado‑Odo/Ota Local Government Areas.

Adams said all decisions regarding the conduct of the primaries were made with the approval of the agents of the three aspirants and their principals.

He added that, following the direct primary conducted across 20 local government areas in Ogun State, Ogundipe is the official winner of the state governorship primary.

The committee chairman said the clarification was necessary to set the record straight on the actual winner of the primary election.

Adams, who chaired an 11‑member committee that supervised all primaries in Ogun State, noted that all three aspirants were aware of the election procedure.

He emphasized that it is unfair for anyone to declare themselves the winner outside of the committee’s official process.

He stated: “As the chairman of the Electoral Committee of the ADC primary elections, I was the one authorised by the party to announce the final results of the election. Whatever anyone else has done is not authorised.”

“I have written my report concerning the primary election and have submitted it to the national secretariat of the party,” he added. “I am addressing this conference to prevent misinformation about the actual results of the governorship primary.”

Adams acknowledged that, like in any political party, disagreements may arise, but the party remains open to reconciliation among aggrieved aspirants and members.

He urged party leaders and members to maintain peace and stay committed to the ADC so that the party can win the 2027 elections convincingly.
