Ogun African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election, Biodun Collins Ogundipe, urged the state's unemployed youth to adopt artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills.
Ogundipe said the era of complete reliance on government job creation is over, urging youths to become opportunity creators instead of passive job seekers.
He delivered the remarks on Friday at the BCO Unemployed Graduates Convergence in Abeokuta.
The AI expert criticized elected officials for lacking the capacity to harness technology for job creation, claiming they “do not have what it takes” to secure livelihoods, deploy technology, or translate allocations into grassroots development.
The modern workplace now demands skills, adaptability, and digital competence. AI is no longer a future prospect—it is already present.
He added that graduates must become opportunity creators rather than mere job seekers.
Turning to governance, Ogundipe accused the ruling APC at state and federal levels of lacking the capacity to secure the state or deploy technology, lamenting that insecurity was shutting down markets, farms, and crippling the 24‑hour economy.
He claimed he could secure Ogun in less than 12 months through “intelligence‑driven, technology‑driven applications,” noting that many leaders depend on costly consultants for proposals that become “what is in it for me” deals.
Earlier, the party’s Public Relations Officer and Chairman of the Planning Committee for the BCO Unemployed Graduates Convergence, Olumide Onabajo, said the event was intended as a practical intervention.
He highlighted opportunities in food processing, renewable energy, fintech, digital marketing, software development, and the global freelance economy.
Onabajo said a graduate in Abeokuta could work remotely for companies in London, Toronto, Dubai, Berlin, or New York without leaving Nigeria, but the challenge lies in possessing the right skills to seize those opportunities.
Meanwhile, former Odeda LGA Chairman Wale Adebayo echoed the call for self‑reliance, urging youths to learn trades such as tiling and ICT in addition to digital skills.
