The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced an extension of the deadlines for submitting nomination forms, conducting candidate screening, and holding primary elections in preparation for the 2027 general election.

Simultaneously, the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also extended the submission period for all nomination forms.

Former Minister of Information Labaran Maku, Senator Ishaku Abbo, Emmanuel Ben, Adamu Bako Blanzou, and Jesse James Ayenajeh, among other notable Nigerians, have chosen to register with the Labour Party (LP) by submitting its expression‑of‑interest and nomination forms for various elective positions.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the national spokesperson of the ADC, explained the adjustments in a statement released yesterday, noting that they were made in response to aspirants’ requests and logistical considerations.

“Adjustments have been made to the primary elections timetable in response to aspirant requests and logistical considerations. Affected items are indicated accordingly. All other previously published dates remain unchanged,” he said.

He added that the deadline for submitting nomination forms, previously set for 13 May 2026, has been moved to 14 May 2026.

According to him, the screening of aspirants, originally scheduled for 14–15 May 2026, will now take place from 16 to 17 May 2026.

The party also stated that the publication of screening results is slated for 17 May 2026, while appeals against screening decisions will run from 18 to 19 May 2026.

The announcement further indicated that the list of cleared candidates will be released on 20 May 2026.

Post‑primary election appeals for legislative seats are scheduled for 22 May 2026, governorship appeals for 23 May 2026, and presidential appeals for 26 May 2026.

Under the new timetable, presidential and governorship aspirants will be screened in Abuja, whereas legislative aspirants will undergo screening in their respective states.

The ADC clarified its payment policy for women and persons with disabilities, confirming that the 25 % concession remains in effect. Candidates who paid more than the discounted rate will receive refunds.

“Aspirants who may have submitted amounts in excess of this rate are advised that refunds will be processed and communicated in due course,” the statement added.

Labaran Maku, former Minister of Information; Senator Ishaku Abbo; Emmanuel Ben; Adamu Bako Blanzou; and Jesse James Ayenajeh are among the prominent Nigerians who have taken the LP’s expression‑of‑interest and nomination forms to contest various positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the party “has firmly established itself as a household name in many states, particularly in Nasarawa State and across my senatorial district, where the people remain determined to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming senatorial and other elections in the state.”

Similarly, Abbo praised the growing momentum of the Labour Party and lauded the National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, for providing leadership that has revitalised and repositioned the party.
