Sevilla staged a dramatic comeback, overturning a two‑goal deficit to defeat Villarreal 3‑2 on Wednesday and move closer to safety in La Liga.
The Andalusian club, which has struggled near the bottom of the table in recent months, secured its third straight win, rising to a provisional 10th place and four points above the relegation zone.
Villarreal opened the scoring with goals from Gerard Moreno and Georges Mikautadze, giving the hosts a 2‑0 advantage within the first 20 minutes.
Sevilla answered before halftime, with Oso and Kike Salas each scoring to level the match. In the 72nd minute, Akor Adams added a third to seal the victory. This week, former defender Sergio Ramos is reported to be close to finalising a takeover of the club together with an investment firm.
In other La Liga action, Espanyol won 2‑0 at home against Athletic Bilbao, ending an 18‑game winless streak. Pere Milla and Kike Garcia’s second‑half goals moved the Catalan side, currently 14th, three points clear of the bottom three.
Later on Wednesday, newly crowned champions Barcelona will face Alavés, seeking three points to continue their attempt to match the all‑time record of 100.
